How To Make Christmas Crackers (bon bons)

How To Make Christmas Crackers (bon bons)

Hands up who has gone to Christmas lunch and cracked a bon bon, only to discover a super cheesy trinket they immediately binned? Well then, this project’s for you.

THESE Christmas bon bons are super simple to make, and the best part is you get to choose the gift that goes inside. The only rule? The items need to fit within an empty toilet roll. We’re talking chocolates, miniature bottles of alcohol, toys, games, puzzles, or even more upmarket items like jewellery and gems.

If you’re looking to add a personal touch to your Christmas lunch, then this might be just the ticket.

Make Christmas crackers in 7 steps

Time: 10 minutes (per cracker)

Skill level: Beginner

What you’ll need:

  • Wrapping paper cut into A4 size (approx. 15cm x 30cm)
  • Ribbon or twine
  • Glue tape
  • Scissors
  • Christmas cracker snaps
  • Empty toilet paper rolls
  • Christmas jokes
  • Christmas party hats
  • A small gift (could be a puzzle, jewellery, game, trinket or choccies).

Step 1: Add toilet cone

Take your piece of paper and place one toilet cone in the centre, vertically.

Step 2: Thread through cracker snap

Thread one Christmas cracker snap through the centre of the empty toilet roll and tape it at both ends to keep it in place.

Step 3: Place gifts inside

Take your goodies (jokes, toys, gifts) and place them inside the cone.

Step 4: Add extra rolls

Put a toilet roll at each end of the centre roll (as per video) and roll your glue tape down one side of the paper. Then wrap it around the cones and carefully press down.

Step 5: Crease the cracker

With your hands, lightly crinkle the edges of your centre cone, to make a guide for your ribbon to wrap around.

Step 6: Wrap it up

Take 20cm of ribbon and tie the ends of each cracker together, to keep the goodies inside and create that classic Christmas bon bon shape

Step 7: Feel smug

That’s it! You’re done. Now all that’s left is to have a crackin’ Christmas
